Jessie Mac Stevenson

From Sat, 27th Oct to Thus, 1st Nov there will be a new Pop Up by the recent winner of the prestigious Cass Art Prize, Jessie Mac Stevenson, in Eccleston Yards. Curated by Nathan Ladd, it’s the first iteration of a series of ambitious installations where artists will be invited to make new work in response to a unique, temporary space within central London. The pair want to demonstrate an alternative methodology of how art practitioners can exhibit ambitious work in the heart of London; retaining the city’s individuality alongside development.

At the exhibition’s centre is a site-specific installation of three of Mac’s Skins. In the triptych #ff00ff, #00ffff, #ff44f15, she has created an innovative, synthetic ‘skin’ and combined it with the conventional material of the canvas. The traditional and the contemporary, the natural and the industrial are juxtaposed to make a new language of paint and reinvent what it means to apply paint to canvas. The installation was conceived in response to the spatial and architectural features of Eccleston Yards and the building in which the exhibition is housed.

The new works demonstrate how colour is integral to Mac’s practice. The bright colour palette, combining the modern with the digital CYMK colour wheel, has existed from early experiments in the exaggerated hue saturation of her moving images. With Lascaux Studio paint that is used across the laser printing industry, the colours are suggestive of the bold chromes in the current print and digital era. Within a contemporary practice, Mac is working to distinguish a unique language in the reinvention of paint. She is challenging traditional painting techniques and media to create an experience of visual pleasure and spatial uncertainty.

paradise now cocktails

This September, Eccleston Yards will be hosting Paradise Now, a unique and pioneering experience that promises to supercharge visitors in 30 minutes. Running from 7-15 September, Paradise Now will be a free urban outdoor spa that will offer guests an engaging journey inspired by the very latest wellness trends.

Developed by multi-sensory visionaries Bompas & Parr, Paradise Now will bring to life wellness concepts such as biohacking, Nootropics, Rehydration technology, urban nature bathing and touchscreen chromo-therapy. The installation will feature:
• A monumental pink mist waterfall at the centre of Eccleston Yards’ courtyard enriched with natural, energising minerals and extracts of raspberry leaf, aloe vera, chamomile and citrus. Here, guests will bathe in the mist of this fountain of nature;
• Haptic dunes – an immersive meditation zone where guests can sit and absorb nutrients from the surrounding dunes of vitamin-infused, aromatherapy-scented pebbles coloured in Baker-Miller pink – a colour scientifically proven to relax and reduce anxiety;
• A perpetual sunset – a large-scale infrared light installation shaped like the sun, which will exude a warming glow. Infrared light therapy is used to boost endorphins and metabolism, relieve depression and stimulate vitamin D production. The sunset will be surrounded by screens streaming live sunsets from stunning locations across the world; and
• Electrolyte Aqua bar – which will feature water collection columns infused with water properties from the seven continents, where various geological layers will collect and transform London’s rainwater into nutrient-rich filtered water. The bar will also offer a selection of designer waters, water infusions and water-based cocktails served by Water Sommeliers who will host tastings.

Our team have been working on two cocktails inspired by Paradise Now which will be available exclusively for the Pop Up.

Connect Festival Victoria

As part of the Victoria BID Connect Festival (13th-16th June) the entrances to Eccleston Yards are looking fabulous with balloons ????????????????

To celebrate Belgravia in Bloom which is taking place as we open and the soon to open Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up exhibition at the V&A, we have created a special cocktail and dish, inspired by the energetic and vivacious Mexican artist.

The Head Full of Flowers cocktail, available throughout the summer, has taken inspiration from the traditional Mexican hairstyle which became one of the most iconic images associated with Kahlo: a head adorned with flowers. It celebrates Frida’s strong, independent, colourful and proud Mexican heritage that became an integral part of her identity. Made with 1800 Silver Reserva, mezcal, St Germain elderflower liqueur, pink grapefruit juice, lime juice with a salt chilli rim, the cocktail celebrates Frida’s much loved Mexican tequila and mezcal spirits that results in a strong, thoughtful, open and honest drink with a colourful and spicy kick on your lips.

Frida’s Mexican Flower Garden Plate salad, which will be available during our soft opening throughout Belgravia in Bloom (19th – 26th May), is a combination of crispy raw summer vegetables and flowers, smoked plantain, chipotle aubergine yoghurt and lime zest served with a sharp, spiced agave vinaigrette and pumpkin seeds. The dish pays homage to Kahlo’s love of plants and nature, both themes that were present throughout the entire span of her career but most intensive during the 1940s and ‘50’s when she was increasingly confined to her home, The Blue House. The garden within The Blue House held a deep connection for Kahlo and this colourful and vibrant dish reminds us of this.
